Chef privado sirviendo una cena para un grupo en una villa

There is a particular moment on most villa holidays. It is around seven in the evening, everyone has been in the sun since eleven, someone has to decide where twelve people are eating, and somebody has to drive.

A private chef removes that moment entirely. And in Tarifa specifically, it does something else: it gets you access to ingredients that are considerably better than what you would order in a restaurant.

What it actually involves

Our chefs do not simply cook. They shop, cook, serve and clear, and by the time you are on the terrace with the last of the wine, the kitchen is exactly as you left it.

Any meal, not just dinner. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner. A long lunch that runs into the afternoon is often the better choice here — it leaves the evening free and it suits the climate.

What they cook:

Dietary requirements, children who will not eat what the adults are eating, an anniversary that needs something particular — all straightforward, given notice.

We are not going to tell you to skip the restaurants; there are excellent ones here and we will book them for you. But there are three situations where a chef in the villa is simply better.

During the almadraba season. From late April to mid-June, a chef can buy a substantial piece of bluefin that morning and serve you four or five cuts of the same fish in one sitting — ventresca, tarantelo, morrillo, descargamento. Very few restaurants will do that for one table. It is the best meal we arrange all year.

With a large group. Twelve people in a restaurant in Tarifa in August means booking weeks ahead, two cars, and a compromise on where. Twelve people around a table on your own terrace, with the Strait going dark and Africa lighting up on the other side, is not the same evening.

With small children. Children eat at six and adults eat at nine. In a restaurant that is a problem. In a villa it is simply two services, and nobody has to hurry anyone.

Events

Beyond holidays, our chefs work on special occasions in villas — birthdays, anniversaries, small weddings, family gatherings that have been postponed for years.

For these we handle more than the cooking: staffing, table settings, timings, and the coordination with everything else that has to happen. If you are planning something significant, talk to us early. The good dates go.

Practical answers

How much notice? Ideally at the time of booking, so the chef is held. In season, a few days is usually workable; in August, longer.

Does the villa need a particular kitchen? No. Our chefs work with what the property has, and we know every kitchen on our books. If you are planning several chef dinners, tell us before you choose the villa and we will steer you towards one with the right space and a good outdoor grill.

What does it cost? It depends on the number of guests, the menu and the number of services. It is not the cheapest way to eat, but for a group it is frequently less than the equivalent restaurant bill — and considerably better food.

Do we shop? No. That is the point. The chef sources everything, including the things you would not know to ask for.

The part that is difficult to buy

Our chefs live here. They know which boat landed what this morning, which farm the retinto came from, and which week the tuna is at its best.

That is not a service you can order from a platform, and it is the reason a chef in Tarifa is worth more than a chef in most places.

Tell us how many you are, when you are here, and how you like to eat — we will match you with the right chef and build the menus around what is actually good that week.
