The villa is booked. Then comes the question we field constantly: how do you actually get here?
Tarifa is roughly 100 km from Málaga Airport, and there is more than one sensible answer depending on how you are travelling. Here is each option, assessed honestly — including the one most guests do not know about.

Private transfer
For most of our guests, this is the right call — and not only for comfort.
A driver meets you in arrivals with your name, takes you door to door, and the price is agreed before you land. It accommodates kite gear, boards and the amount of luggage a family actually travels with. If your flight is delayed, the driver waits.
The practical argument: after a flight, the drive down is on unfamiliar roads, often in the dark, at the end of a long day. Starting a holiday that way sets a tone, and it is not the tone we want for our guests.
We arrange transfers from both Málaga and Gibraltar as part of the booking, with drivers we use continuously rather than whoever a broker allocates. If you are arriving late, we make sure the villa is lit, cool and stocked when you walk in.
Hire car
Worth it if you intend to explore — and this coast rewards exploring. Vejer, Zahara, Bolonia and the Alcornocales are all within an hour, and none of them are well served by public transport.
The route: A-7 or AP-7 south → A-381 towards Algeciras → N-340 into Tarifa. Toll on the AP-7 section, roughly €10–15.
Two things worth knowing: the rental centre is a five-minute shuttle from the Málaga terminals, and parking in central Tarifa is genuinely difficult in summer. Most of our villas have private parking — if a hire car is part of your plan, tell us and we will factor it in.
Bus
The budget route, and an honest one — but understand what it involves.
Alsa runs from Málaga bus station, not the airport, so there is a taxi or metro leg first. Then Málaga → Algeciras (about 1h45), then Algeciras → Tarifa (about 30 minutes). Total, with connections, is over three hours.
Fine with light luggage and time. Not sensible with children, boards, or a late arrival.
Gibraltar Airport — the one people miss
Gibraltar is only 40 km from Tarifa, about forty minutes by road. It is served from the UK by British Airways and easyJet, and for British guests it is very often the better arrival.
You cross the Spanish border at La Línea and drive down. It is shorter, simpler and usually calmer than Málaga.

Arriving as a family, or with equipment, or in the evening: private transfer, and let us handle it.

Whichever you choose, tell us your flight number and time when you book. We would rather organise the arrival properly than have you work it out at 23:00 in a car park at Málaga.
